Drag Brake Systems are designed to prevent the overspinning of a winch drum when the braking mechanism is disengaged.
The system applies a controlled restriction on the drum's rotation, utilizing an actuator with a braking element that is continuously pressed against the drum by a spring. This setup facilitates both the free-falling function and controlled load dropping operations of the drum.
